Chris Rust joined USVP in 2004. He works with software, internet, and technology companies. Prior to USVP, Chris was the CEO of Mahi Networks (acquired by Meriton). Previously, he was a Partner at Sequoia Capital. Chris' operating experience before entering venture capital in 1998 spanned fourteen years in software development, systems engineering, and product management at Carrier Access Corporation (Nasdaq: CACS), ComCore (acquired by National Semi), US WEST Advanced Technologies, and Nokia. While at US WEST, Chris was a founding network architect of Time Warner Roadrunner, now one of the largest broadband service providers in the world. Previously, Chris was a Founding Director or lead investor in Abrizio (acquired by PMC Sierra), Afara (acquired by SUN, now the Niagra product line), Avanex (Nasdaq: AVNX), Commerce5 (acquired by Digital River), Dune Networks (acquired by Broadcom), LVL7 (acquired by Broadcom), Mellanox (Nasdaq: MLNX), Santur, Stratalight (acquired by Opnext), SwitchOn Networks (acquired by PMC Sierra), Telera (acquired by Alcatel Lucent), and VxTel (acquired by Intel). Chris was a founding member of the Cable Labs DOCSIS cable modem standards effort, and holds issued patents related to broadband communications, home gateways, and set top box design. Chris is currently a Board Member of Akros, Bio-Pure Technologies, Blekko, Clustrix, Dilithium, Kaiam, Veriwave, and Tap11. Chris received a BS and MS Electrical Engineering from the University of Lowell, an MS Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and an MS Engineering Management from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
