Bio

Mr Dickinson is a Managing Partner and joined the Firm in 2001. Mr Dickinson has extensive experience advising and working with Industrial Product and Service companies. At Thayer, he led the recent investment in MISTRAS Holdings, a leading participant in the test & measurement Industry and is also Thayer’s Senior Board member at IESI, Education Resources/Sunburst Technologies and Cape Success. Prior to Thayer, he spent more than fourteen years in Mergers & Acquisitions, most recently as Co-Head of Global M&A at Merrill Lynch. His roles at Merrill Lynch also included leading the European M&A Group and, prior to that, the Global Manufacturing and Services M&A effort. Under Mr Dickinson’s co-leadership, the M&A Group at Merrill Lynch completed 304 transactions with a value of over $1.1 trillion in 2000. While in Europe, Mr Dickinson helped the business triple its market share and increase M&A revenues five-fold over three years. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 1993, Mr Dickinson was in the M&A Group at the First Boston Corporation. Mr Dickinson has worked on over one hundred transactions of all types in a variety of industries and regions. Most notably, he was the lead advisor to Mannesman in its hostile takeover by Vodafone, which was the largest M&A transaction to date, valued at $210 billion. Most of his career has been focused on advising manufacturing companies, working in the capital goods, industrial component, automotive, process control, specialty material and electrical equipment sectors. Mr Dickinson has also been a senior strategic and financial advisor to many of the largest industrial concerns, including Caterpillar, General Motors and Siemens. Mr Dickinson has both a Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration from The University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, magna cum laude, from Duke University.
