Bio

David W. Albert is a Managing Director and Co-Head of the Energy Mezzanine Opportunities group. Mr. Albert is based in New York. Prior to working at Carlyle, Mr. Albert was a Managing Director and Global Head of Project and Structured Finance at Morgan Stanley. During his 12 years at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Albert led the execution of numerous successful power and energy structured acquisition financings and refinancings, and managed a $3.2 billion structured equity investment book focused primarily on renewable power generation assets, which included equity investments in a 250MW greenfield wind farm, an overriding royalty interest on 20MMboe of hedged oil and gas assets, and BrightSource Energy (utility-scale solar business), as well as $1.2 billion of tax equity investments in approximately 2,700MW of wind and geothermal power generation assets. Select financings executed by Mr. Albert include: $740 million commodity-hedged construction financing for Riverstone Holdings’ Topaz Power Group, $1.55 billion of oil and gas secured financings for Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, $525 million commodity-hedged acquisition financing for Complete Energy’s acquisition of the 1,022MW La Paloma generating facility, $950 million commodity-hedged financing for Madison Dearborn Partners’ acquisition of Reliant Energy’s in-city assets and an $11 billion sole construction financing commitment to TXU to build 11 coal-fired power plants. Prior to joining Project and Structured Finance, Mr. Albert was a Vice President in Princes Gate Investors, a $1.2 billion private equity fund controlled by Morgan Stanley. Mr. Albert began his career in 1992 in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Salomon Brothers Inc. Mr. Albert graduated with a B.S. in economics and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also earned a BA in english from the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Pennsylvania.
