Bio

Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Private Equity group. Also serves as Chairman of The Blackstone Group International Limited, the firm’s UK-regulated holding company. Principal focus is providing support to the firm’s activities across Europe and Asia. Before joining Blackstone in 2008, spent five years as CEO of Kingfisher, a FTSE 100 company and the leading home improvement retailer in Europe and Asia. Also served as CEO of Carlton Communications plc, Exel plc and Greencore Group plc. Earlier in his career, has held senior positions in R&D, operations, marketing, corporate development and general management with Grand Metropolitan plc (now Diageo plc) in Ireland, the UK and the US. Non-executive director of British American Tobacco plc and also serves on the UK government’s Asia Task Force and the UK India Business Council Advisory Board. Serves as a director of United Biscuits, Kloeckner Pentaplast and Michaels Stores. Has served on the boards of Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, Abbey National plc and Novar plc. Educated in Ireland and received his BSc with honours and PhD in food technology from University College Cork and a 1st Class MBS in marketing from University College Dublin.
