Bio

Dr Betz became CEO of West STEAG Partners in August 2001. Before joining West STEAG Partners, he has served as a member of the Management Board of STEAG AG from 1997 till 2001. Under his strategic and management leadership, the Semiconductor Equipment, Optical Discs and Microsystems units of SES developed from a € 15 million to a € 500 million business. He is Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of STEAG HamaTech AG (Sternenfels, Germany; Neuer Markt), Member of the Board of Directors of Mattson Inc. (Fremont, CA; NASDAQ), of Guide Technology Inc (Sunnyvale, CA), of Photodigm Inc (Richardson, TX), of Lambda Crossing Ltd (Caesarea, Israel), of Tevet Process Control Technologies Ltd. (Yoknea'm, Israel), of InfoCyclone Ltd (Tel-Aviv, Israel), and of Advanced Energy (Fort Collins, CO; NASDAQ). He previously held the position of a Director at the Board of Envara Inc (Ra'anana, Israel) until the company was acquired by Intel. From 1990 to 1992, Dr Betz was Managing Director of the Electronics and Optics Division of Leybold AG, and from 1987 to 1990, he was the Division's Head of R&D, covering Data Storage, Optical Components, Semiconductor Equipment, and Flat Panel Displays. From 1972 to 1982, he was a Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute of Solid State Technology in Munich, and from 1983 to 1986, he served as a Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructuring in Berlin. Dr Betz received a diploma in Electrical Engineering (1972) and a Ph.D. (1981), both from the Technical University in Munich. Dr Betz is an Advisory Board member of several Fraunhofer Institutes and received the European SEMI Award in 1997.
