Bio

I founded Porton Group in early 2000 with a specific remit to commercialize technology invented in UK Ministry of Defence Laboratories. Porton Group now spans the venture capital and private equity industries. Within the venture markets we are a trusted entity specializing in the commercialization of military technology. Our established private equity operations focus on the cyber sector via a number of fund vehicles under our management. Our history lies in partnerships with leading Government laboratories, funding and developing technology for military purposes, with parallel commercial applications. Such laboratories include Dstl (an agency of the UK Ministry of Defence); Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (the UK Space Centre of Excellence); and numerous other UK Government public sector research establishments, as well as the likes of Cambridge University. Porton Group has always enjoyed unique access to technology with worldwide market potential, both embracing the competition of new entrants to the sector and diversifying to new markets and opportunities. Porton Group was never intended to be sector specific, although we have a proud heritage in defence and security - ranging from encryption technologies, biometrics, medical diagnostics and cyber to big data analytics. Many of our significant investments have had national security at their heart, but have gone on to be actively successful in commercial sectors. Porton Group is particularly focused on communication encryption technologies, through our Communication Security Group (CSG) investment. CSG owns both the Seecrypt (www.seecrypt.com) and Cellcrypt (www.cellcrypt.com), secure messaging and voice product suites, used by the largest Telcos, Government and commercial organizations world-wide. Our investments, past and present and future, benefit from our experienced and activist management style - helping introduce technology to high growth regions globally and build value in the portfolio. Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Accountants, having qualified with the specialist valuations group within Deloitte and Touche London Corporate Finance in 1994, and is also a Fellow of the Securities Institute. Degree in Economics and Accountancy from the University of Bristol.
