James Campbell, M.D., seeks opportunities to invest in innovative technologies in the areas of therapeutics and biomedical devices. He works with entrepreneurs at the early stages of company formation.Dr. Campbell has a long record of accomplishment in academic medicine and neuroscience research. He serves part-time as professor of neurosurgery and director of the Blaustein Pain Treatment Center at the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, and in the past, served as vice chairman and director of the Residency Training Program for the Department of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. He has edited several textbooks, published well over 100 peer-reviewed research papers and has served on the editorial board of several academic journals. Dr. Campbell has received many national awards for research and public service, including the Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health, and the Grass Award from the Society of Neurological Surgery. He also has received the Kerr Award for Research from the American Pain Society and the Neuroscience Investigator Award from Briston Meyer Squibb. He has served as consultant/advisor for several biopharmaceutical companies and holds many patents in the life sciences. Dr. Campbell owns the founding intellectual property for Anesiva and Arcion Therapeutics, both InterWest portfolio companies. Dr. Campbell is a director of InterWest portfolio company Amplimmune, and is the chief executive officer and a director of Arcion Therapeutics a company founded at InterWest. He is the founder and chairman emeritus of the non-profit organization, the American Pain Foundation. Dr. Campbell received his B.A. from the University of Michigan with high honors and high distinction, and his M.D. degree from Yale University. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins University, and also pursued post-doctoral training in neurophysiology in the department of physiology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Campbell is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
