James F. Martin is Managing Partner at EMP Latin America and a Managing Director at EMP Global, responsible for management of the $1.1 billion AIG-GE Capital Latin American Infrastructure Fund L.P. (LAIF) and for development of new funds and financial advisory activities in the Latin American region. Mr. Martin joined EMP Global's Latin America Group in 1997 as a Managing Director where he was responsible for LAIF's investments in the transportation and environmental services sectors and where he was also active in the natural resources sector. Mr. Martin is currently a director of 11 of LAIF's portfolio companies and/or affiliates. Mr. Martin is active in developing financing strategies for LAIF's portfolio companies and has raised senior and mezzanine debt from a variety of sources on behalf of portfolio companies. Prior to joining EMP Global, Mr. Martin was a Principal Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) where from 1992 to 1997 he headed a team responsible for investments in water and environmental infrastructure. He also worked in the port and gas distribution sectors. At IFC, Mr. Martin was responsible for a variety of investments, mostly in Latin America, involving senior and mezzanine debt as well as equity. From 1980 to 1992, Mr. Martin was at Bank of Boston, serving in Italy, in Mexico as Country Manager, and most recently in Singapore where he was regional head responsible for the Bank's activities in Southeast and South Asia. Mr. Martin has a BSFS in International Economics from Georgetown University and a MBA from Columbia University.
