Bio

Mr Anthony is the the founder of the private equity firm Cinven Ltd and the capital fund Causeway Capital Group Ltd. He also served as chairman of the British Venture Capital Association in 1987 and 1988, and was later chairman of the MBO/MBI committee of the European Venture Capital Association. His investment activity began as Deputy-Director General of the Coal Board Pension Funds in 1976 where he was able to pioneer institutional involvement in 'direct' investment. He created seven CIN (Coal Industry Nominee) companies to provide permanent capital for companies wishing to expand, including two leasing companies, a film financing company and an invoice discounting company. His biggest creation at The Coal Board was CIN Industrial Finance in 1997 that later became known as Cinven. Since Cinven gained its independence from the Coal Board, it has become the leading providers of private equity for large European buyouts with EUR 20 billion in buyouts since 1995. In 1983, he founded Causeway Capital to raise and invest funds into this sector. In 1996, he sold Causeway to the ABN AMRO bank, where he continued as Executive Chairman for three years. By the time of the sale, Causeway Capital had raised nine funds of almost USD 500 million. Mr Anthony is currently a director of Coller Capital Ltd. Mr Anthony holds degrees from London University (London School of Economics), BSc (Econ) and an MA in Finance from Sheffield University. Mr Anthony attended Manchester Business School and is also FRSA registered and a Freeman of the City of London.
