Bio

Nate Fick joined Bessemer as an operating partner in 2011. He is chief executive officer of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), an independent non-profit that develops innovative national security policies and cultivates outstanding talent in the field of foreign affairs. He has led the Center’s transition from startup to recognition as one of the most dynamic and influential foreign policy research organizations in the country. CNAS contributes to a wide range of defense and national security issues, provides a convening forum for senior military and civilian officials, and trains the nation’s next generation of national security leaders. During Nate’s tenure, CNAS has built an array of partners ranging from the Fortune 100, to major foundations, to fast-growing companies in industries that are changing international relations, such as communications, alternative energy, and biotechnology. Before coming to CNAS, Nate served as a Marine Corps infantry officer, including combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His 2005 New York Times best-selling book about that experience, One Bullet Away, was recognized as one of the “Best Books of the Year” by The Washington Post and one of the "Best Military Books of the Decade" by The Military Times. Nate’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, and Forbes, among other publications. He serves on the boards of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders, and the Infantry Order of Saint Crispin. Nate holds an AB in Classics from Dartmouth College, an MPA in international security policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
