Ole C Sand

Bio

Mr Sand joined GEF as the head of the firm’s forestry team in September 2008, after nearly 30 years of experience in international finance and investments spanning venture capital, investment banking, commercial banking, and multilateral development financing. Mr Sand joins GEF from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where he had served since 1989 as the transaction leader for IFC projects involving a broad cross-section of sectors and countries. For the past six years Mr Sand was Head of the Forest Products Sector group, a position he held since its establishment in 2002. Under Ole’s watch, the group completed nearly $1.4 billion of new investment commitments for IFC’s own account, which in turn, catalyzed financing worth about $6.5 billion for new forestry and forest products industry projects. Between 1976 and 1989, Mr Sand held various positions in investment and commercial banking in his native country Norway. Mr Sand holds a PhD in International Business from UCLA, MBA in Finance from Berkeley, Norwegian Law School (section 1 of 3) from University of Oslo, Norway, and a Bachelor of Science, University of Lund, Sweden.
