Bio

Paul has been a managing partner with Cordova Ventures since 1991. During his career, Paul has been instrumental in the creation, development and management of a number of Cordova’s private company and real estate investment funds. He has been involved in well over 120 privately-held company investments, including Ecovation (sold to Ecolab), ConstructWare (sold to Autodesk), Tissue Products Technologies Corp. (sold to PCDI), Axonn (sold to Globalstar), RealCom Communications (sold to MFI-WorldCom), Horizon Medical (IPO), National Action Financial Services (trade sale), Accipeter (sold to CMGI), Lynk Systems (sold to Royal Bank of Scotland), Atherogenics (IPO) and Inhibitex (IPO). In 1999, Paul founded Industrial Technology Ventures, L.P. (ITV), which was one of the first funds to focus on companies with innovative technologies for core industries. Target industries for ITV included advanced materials, transportation, resource recovery, food processing, power generation, electronics, and general manufacturing. Paul has been awarded four industrial process patents, all of which were used successfully in commercial operations in the mid-1990s. He also has served as president of a portfolio company where he headed strategy and operations. Over the years, he has also helped portfolio companies raise over $200 million from industry partners and investors. Before joining Cordova, Paul was a practicing attorney concentrating primarily in the areas of corporate finance, securities and mergers and acquisitions. He began his legal career in Atlanta with Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy LLP. Before attending law school, Paul worked as a financial advisor at Shearson American Express and Paine Webber, and for several years in the early 1980s, he was an SEC Registered Investment Advisor. Paul currently serves as a board member of ASPEX, Inc. (Delmont, PA), and was ITV’s initial board member for Ecovation, Axonn, Five Star Technologies, SkyBitz, EcoSmart Technologies, DemandPoint Systems and Hartford Steel Technologies. ITV exits to date include Ecovation, Tissue Products Technology Corp., ConstructWare and Axonn. Over the last several years, two of ITV’s portfolio companies were named to the Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Companies in America list. Paul continues to serve as the Managing Director of ITV. He also continues to serve on the board of Cordova and has been a serial top-tier performing manager since joining the firm. Paul is a 1986 honors graduate (top 6% of his class) of the University of Miami School of Law, where he was an associate editor on the Law Review and the International Law Review, and a member of the Moot Court Board. Upon graduation, he was selected to the Order of the Coif, a national legal honor society. Paul holds an undergraduate degree in finance from The University of the State of New York, Albany, New York.
