Bio

Skardon F. Baker is a Managing Director focused on distressed and corporate opportunities. Mr. Baker is based in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Carlyle in 2011, Mr. Baker spent seven years at Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. most recently as a Managing Director and Equity Partner based in Los Angeles where he focused on distressed debt, distressed-for-control and special situation private equity investments in the financial services, gaming, lodging, leisure and specialty retail sectors. Prior to his promotion to Managing Director, Mr. Baker also supported investment activities in the business services, consumer, energy, industrial and shipping sectors and took the administrative lead in building Oaktree’s principal investment activities in China and Japan. Mr. Baker joined Oaktree from J.P. Morgan & Chase and its predecessor organizations where worked for four and a half years in the mergers and acquisitions group focused on leveraged transactions for the firm’s private equity client base and as a Special Assistant to Geoff Boisi and Don Layton, JPMorgan’s Co-Heads of Global Investment Banking, focused on strategic and merger integration issues. Prior to his graduate studies, Mr. Baker worked as Chief Speechwriter and Policy Assistant to Candidate and Texas Governor George W. Bush, subsequently the 43rd President of the United States. Mr. Baker also served on active duty as an officer in the United States Army where he was a qualified paratrooper, commanded a tank platoon, and served as an operations officer within a mechanized infantry and armor division. Mr. Baker received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law where he served as an Associate Editor of The Texas Law Review, and his B.A. in government, magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
