Bio

Curt Whittaker, Managing Partner, has spent 25 years in the renewable energy industry as legal counsel to developers, investors and lenders, working on landfill gas, wind, hydroelectric, and biomass development projects. Importantly, since 1985, Curt's work has almost exclusively focused on renewable energy plants; he is no recent convert from more conventional energy areas. Curt has worked with the NEC investment team since 2004, serving as lead counsel on all of NEC's investment activities related to biomass, bio-materials, hydroelectric, landfill gas, and wind development. Curt also acts as a senior partner and head of the Energy Practice at Rath, Young & Pignatelli in Concord, NH. Prior to working with Rath, Young, Mr. Whittaker was a member of the Energy Practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Washington and Los Angeles. Curt's legal practice spans all aspects of the development and financing of renewable generation facilities in the United States and Canada, from site acquisition through EPC negotiations to construction and term financing. Curt has been at the forefront of developing the practice of monetizing federal tax credits for renewable energy projects, and he led the first monetization of credits for a biomass power generation facility in the U.S. Apart from his legal representation, Curt has successfully developed two hydropower facilities in Virginia, a landfill gas project in New Hampshire and, most recently, the Milford Wind Corridor project, a 200 MW (initial phase) wind project in Utah with partner First Wind, LLC (the project is described at (the project is described at www.milfordwind.com). NEC will exploit Curt's demonstrated greenfield development skills in structuring early stage investment opportunities, where appropriate. Curt holds a BA in Economics (Phi Beta Kappa) from the College of William & Mary and a JD (with Honors) from Harvard Law School.
