Art founded Walden in 1974. From inception, Walden has consistently worked with Sprout Stage companies looking for mass markets. Early in his career, Mr. Berliner led Walden’s investment in Printronix which was the first IPO for the pioneering investment banking firm Robertson Stephens and Company. Art has led more than 100 investments in technology and consumer companies. Successful IPO exits include Gymboree, Natural Wonders, Eagle Hardware and Garden, Optical Specialties, Buca Di Beppo, and Lexicon. Successful M&A exits includeCodon, Macronetics, Nuclepore and Rensco. Art led Walden’s investment in Mode Media (formerly Glam) and Gumps. Art co-founded Walden International and Walden Israel and successfully mentored independent teams who manage technology oriented funds in Asia and Israel respectively. Although Art has made investments in companies covering a broad range of industries, over the last 15 years he is known for his experience in consumer, retail and e-commerce businesses. Art is a Director at TodayTix, MeUndies, Bespoke Post and Food52. Prior to Walden, Art had research, sales and Corporate Finance roles at Sutro & Company where he discovered his passion for working with high growth companies.
