Bio

Aran Ron, an operating partner based in Bessemer’s New York office, joined the firm in 2009. He specializes in investments in healthcare and works closely with Bob Goodman. Aran brings to Bessemer more than 25 years of experience practicing medicine, teaching medicine and managing health plans and healthcare-delivery systems. Until recently he was president and COO of Group Health Incorporated, a PPO and HMO health plan, where he led the company’s return to profitability and oversaw its merger with Health Insurance Plan of New York (HIP) to create Emblem Health Plans. He also served on the oversight committee managing Emblem’s program of conversion to for-profit status and its initial-public offering. At Emblem, Aran served as executive vice president and chief medical officer. Prior to joining Group Health, Aran was the medical director at Oxford Health Plans, where he developed a new delivery method for specialty treatments. Previously, he was medical director and senior vice president for medical affairs and medical education for New York Downtown Hospital. He began his management career as director of quality programs at Beth Israel Medical Center. BA and an MD from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as an MBA and a Master’s of Public Health from Columbia University.
