With over 16 years in the banking industry, Mr Bergstein oversees all operations at Forbion Capital Partners, including management, strategy and standard operations. As founder of ABN AMRO Capital Life Sciences (AAC LS) in 2000 and with 10 years of experience in the life sciences investment industry, Bart provides invaluable expertise in the life sciences venture capital industry. At ABN AMRO, Mr Bergstein was the first investment manager to invest in biotech companies, leading the AAC LS' investment in Rhein Biotech in 1999. The company floated on the Neuer Markt stock exchange in Frankfurt in 1999, and in 2000, together with WestLB, Mr Bergstein's team arranged a USD 30 million equity financing that enabled Rhein Biotech to acquire Korea Green Cross Vaccines Corporation in a USD 110 M transaction. This boosted the stock value of the company from EUR 30 per share at the time of acquisition, to the EUR 110-150 per share range. During 1997-2000, Mr Bergstein held the position of Senior Investment Manager in the Private Equity Department at ABN AMRO, where he was involved in expansion finance, equity for project finance, and management buyouts. As the team grew, he stayed active on the operational side, realizing multiple investments and taking in several board positions, including AM Pharma, Ardana, and Ness. Prior to this position, Mr Bergstein was Relationship Manager (Global Clients) in the Czech Republic and improved the income of the Prague office by 300 percent. After this posting Mr Bergstein was involved in global clients credit department, evaluating derivatives, project financing and other specialty finance products. Mr Bergstein an executive board member of the Mibiton Foundation, a Governmental organisation that finances equipment for biotech companies. He is also investment advisor for Technical Knowledge projects at Leiden Medical University. Mr Bergstein joined ABN AMRO as branch manager in 1990, after completing a graduate traineeship. He was trained as a construction engineer at the Technical University Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
