Joined the Tate & Lyle Group and very soon became involved in trading worldwide, in setting up new companies abroad, in restructuring existing operations and returning them to profitability. As International Director of a major subsidiary, took Tate & Lyle into new markets namely Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and others thereby establishing the Company as the leader in Latin America. On leaving the Tate & Lyle Group after 25 years, led an MBI into a specialist logistics Company working exclusively for the Computer and Hi-Tech industries. Appointed the Management team and together with his Business Partner wrote the business plan and raised the necessary Venture Capital. Sales skills enabled him to increase turnover by some £2.3 million p.a. over a 2 year period resulting in the Company achieving breakeven after approx 2 years. Remained as MD for 2 years until the business was sold to a plc. Spent 4 years as Client Service Director with Argent Trading, an American Corporate Barter Company. Worked on sales to SME’s with Bartercard, the world’s largest Trade Exchange and supervised the introduction of EFTPOS terminals to enable Barter transactions to be processed electronically in addition to Debit and Credit Card transactions. Spanish and French at Bristol University.
