Singaporean. Co-founder of Frontier Investment & Development Partners. Dr Tan is a Professor at Singapore Management University (SMU) and a consultant for various public and private sector companies and multilateral agencies in the region. 7 years experience in investment banking. Was a Managing Director at Fleet Boston Bank prior to joining SMU. Also worked with Chase Manhattan and Peregrine Holdings, primarily in the capacity of Chief Strategist (Asia). Worked as a journalist with the Singapore Press Holdings, covering regional political, business and financial issues. Has consulted extensively in Asia, especially in China and Indo-China, over the years. Has extensive entrepreneurial experience and sits on the board of a number of companies/statutory board in Singapore. Currently also serves as the Director of the China Capital Market Research Center in Singapore, the Vice President of the Economic Society of Singapore and is a member of the advisory board of the Economic Institute of Cambodia. Graduated with first class honors in Economics from Adelaide University (1984) under a Colombo Plan Scholarship and Masters and PhD in Economics from Yale University (1991).
