Bio

Bart focuses on investments involving fundamental innovation in green energy, telecom, IT, and software. Current investments include Inphase, CorEdge Networks, SeraStar, Hermios, and RemoTV. Past investments include Ciena, Covad, and JDS Uniphase Prior to founding Signal Lake, Bart consulted to leading investors and firms on major early stage investments and acquisitions. He completed over 450 engagements that resulted in over $60B of capital commitments. His clients included Telcordia (nee Bell Communications Research), SAIC, Global Crossing, Korea Telecom (see also KT2000 Strategic Plan), Frontier Communications, Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Company, Monitor Group, Charles River Ventures, General Atlantic, Telesoft, Matrix Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Warburg Pincus, Sevin Rosen Funds, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Bart's entire career is focused on technical innovation. He spent four years in the Mathematics Research Center of Bell Labs working on signal processing, starting with data analysis of signals on analog telephone lines. He then spent six years in the UNIX software application support area, working on 20+ systems in detail and an additional 80+ systems as short term advisor, covering object oriented programming and relational databases and interpreter/script driven application software development, as well as representing ATT on Project 802 Local Area Network Standards (802.2 Logical Link Control, 802.4 Token Passing Bus). He has written over thirty refereed technical papers, coauthored one book with Ed Arthurs (A Computer and Communication Network Performance Analysis Primer), and lectured at over 50 universities, research labs, and institutes around the globe. Bart continues to work to foster innovation and was on the board of the MIT Enterprise Forum, 2004-2006. Bart holds a bachelor, masters, and doctorate of science in electrical engineering and computer science all from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Claude Shannon reviewed his MIT Bachelor's thesis, his MIT Master's thesis was done in Amar Bose's group, his MIT doctoral dissertation was in space satellite dynamics.
