Joyce M. Ferris is a founder and Managing Partner of Blue Hill. She has been an entrepreneur in the Green Technology industry for over 25 years and is passionate about building businesses and projects in the sector. She is especially focused on helping entrepreneurial companies build high-performance cultures. Joyce has a unique set of skills combining demonstrated leadership with hands-on transaction and management experience in the sector. She has had principal roles as an investor, technology and equipment provider, a financial advisor and as a project developer. Joyce’s energy project experience includes energy efficiency and on-site generation projects, biomass and agricultural waste fired energy projects, industrial waste disposal facilities, waste-coal fired power plants, geothermal, and hydroelectric projects. Over the past ten years she has actively followed emerging energy efficiency and sustainability technology and service businesses and led Blue Hill’s investment in seven companies. Since founding Blue Hill Joyce has held numerous director positions and is currently on the board of Aircuity Inc. and Performance Systems Development LLC. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and has been an advisor to government, trade organizations and companies. Prior to founding Blue Hill, Joyce was a senior founding executive with Reading Energy, an early independent power company founded in 1985. At Reading Energy she managed energy project and corporate financial transactions totaling over $500 million. She was one of the founders of the firm and after a management buy-out in 1988, a principal shareholder. After leaving Reading Energy Joyce led the acquisition of Energy Products of Idaho (“EPI”), a combustion technology firm specializing in the efficient conversion of solid waste material to energy. After purchasing EPI she became a major shareholder and led business development and strategic partnerships for the company. Joyce is on the non-profit board of Philadelphia Outward Bound. She holds a B.A. from Reed College in History and Philosophy (1981) and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in Energy Management and Policy (1985) with a concentration in finance coursework at the Wharton School.
