Bio

S Balasubramanian (Bala), an operating partner in BVP India’s Mumbai office, joined the firm in September 2010. He focuses on capital structuring and fund raising for Bessemer companies in India. Prior to joining Bessemer, Bala was with the Vedanta Group, HSBC, UBS AG / Warburg Dillon Read, SBICAP and NTPC. During a career spanning over 20 years, of which about 18 years has been in the banking sector, Bala has had extensive project finance and export finance experience covering a wide range of sectors including power (generation, transmission, distribution and renewable), oil & gas, transportation, metals & mining and telecommunications. His experience includes project structuring, contract structuring and negotiations, financial modelling, limited recourse debt financing, export credit agency-backed financing, interest and currency derivatives, and transaction documentation. Bala holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore and a b.s. degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Government College of Technology at Coimbatore.
